Critical Incidents procedure

What is a critical incident

A critical incident is a situation where either you, a colleague or client is in serious danger.

What should I do in this situation

In a serious, time sensitive situation, you first establish a safe place (consider locking doors) whilst phoning 999.

What to do in less severe circumstances

Example situations would be discussed for purposes of understanding prior to engaging in client sessions. In less, time sensitive, critical situations you can contact your supervisor to take advice regarding the situation.

How do I identify if a client is a risk to themselves

This will be assessed during initial consultation. However as report builds a client may reveal risk which was otherwise unknown. In a time sensitive situation the session needs to be terminated and the police contacted. For less time sensitive issues seek advice from your supervisor.
